ROLE

UX Designer

The Trust Exchange Initiative explored the use of verifiable credentials (VCs) to extend the Government Digital ID system. Proofs of concept were developed to assess how Services Australia-issued credentials could be applied in real-world scenarios, validating their security, trust and feasibility within the myGov digital wallet.

My role involved conducting a series of real-world tests and interviews with both users and verifiers to evaluate practical application. This included assessing user experience, community sentiment and operational feasibility across multiple contexts.

Contexts Tested

To understand everyday usage and trust, the proof of concept was trialled across four distinct environments:

  • · Medical centre: confirming identity at check-in for an appointment.
  • · Bank branch: providing identification during a loan application.
  • · Licensed venue: verifying legal age with venue staff.
  • · International travel: using a digital passport as proof of identity.

Testing across these varied settings surfaced usability and trust factors unique to each context, demonstrating how digital ID can streamline verification while preserving user control and confidence.
